Sri Lanka Press Institute
Sri Lanka's first independent journalism institute was launched in 2004: the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) . Behind the initiative are four media organizations: the Free Media Movement, the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association, the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka and the Editors' Guild.
The institute has two major departments: the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka, PCCSL , and the Sri Lanka College of Journalism, SLCJ.
PCC is a self-regulatory body for the press while SLCJ is a training institute offering a one-year diploma course in journalism, as well as shorter mid-career courses for working journalists.
